A Note on College Green

Craig Carnaroli

Since launching our Climate Action Plan just six months ago, I continue to be impressed with the terrific progress made towards reducing our carbon footprint and enhancing our overall sustainability practices. Most notably is the collaborative manner in which the Penn community has rallied together from across disciplines to take on this common challenge so important to the collective health of our society, its citizens, and Penn.

So much energy and enthusiasm has been expended over the last six months towards the stated goals of our plan.  The decision to write the Climate Action Plan was easy. Implementing the plan is where the rubber hits the road. As you read this edition of On College Green, you will find examples of the cutting edge, innovative, and dedicated work of faculty, students and staff - your peers and colleagues in this effort.

Penn is having a great first year and is making the long range changes in energy conservation, waste minimization, green design, and education that are getting us closer to our 2014 goals. It is a reminder that no single project or piece of research can achieve this alone, but together we are making a big difference at Penn and in the world. The harnessing of this collective talent is why we call our effort Penn's Green Campus Partnership. We are a team - not interested in title, tenure, position, or age - focused on good ideas that make an impact.
