ReThink: Vietnam Book Drive

November 8, 2016
Vietnam Book Drive

Reuse is a big component of ReThink Your Footprint, and although many activities on campus are local, some programs cover more ground and are international.

In September 2007, the Vietnam Education Foundation Fellows Association (VEFFA) devised and launched the Vietnam Book Drive Project to supply libraries at Vietnamese universities with current books and periodicals written in English.

Vietnam is a developing country, trying to keep up with the world in all aspects, so Science and Engineering are the top priorities.

In 2015 and 2016, Vietnam Book Drive collaborated with PennMoves to accept all kinds of book donations. In 2015, 1,871 books were donated and in 2016 this increased to 2,026 books.

Photographs from these events can be found here.

This year, the collaboration is with Ton Duc Thang University in Ho Chi Minh City. They will receive STEM book donations and sponsor $8,000 to cover the shipping fee. Also, this year the project has been expanded in order to collect English children's books for Vietnamese children and the Annual Book Day will be in December 4th, 2016 at Penn.
