For the third year, Penn’s Office of Student Affairs, Penn Sustainability, Penn Dining, and Penn Urban Park are working together to make Hey Day a zero-waste event. Hey Day is an annual tradition where juniors eat together on High Rise Field before a procession down Locust Walk to celebrate becoming seniors. Volunteers are needed on Thursday, May 1 from 9:45AM-12:15PM, and particularly from 11AM-12PM. 

Making this highly attended and high-profile annual event zero waste both diverts from landfills and exposures many students to waste management practices and sustainability.

To make this possible, we need volunteers to help staff six waste receptacle stations.

Volunteers:

• Help students place compostables and recyclables in the correct bin
• Use claws to help sort misplaced items
• Weigh the bags at the end

This is a fun way to spend time outside, interact with students, and learn to support zero waste event operations. Students, staff, and faculty all welcome. No experience necessary as training slides will be sent in advance.
