Quaker Kitchen, the small dining café in Gutmann College House, has formed a collaborative relationship with Penn Dining and the Penn Park Farm to prepare food grown on the Farm and to use the space as a teaching opportunity. In the summer, when produce is plentiful, chefs from Penn Dining prepare freezable foods such as soups and sauces as well as dry herbs. These items are then given back to Penn Farm staff who distribute them to the Good Food Bag Program which provides food to students who are experiencing food insecurity.
Quaker Kitchen also uses the garden as a learning space. This year the staff at QK partnered with the Philly Beekeeping Club which keeps their hives at the Farm to have a class on honey harvesting. The students harvested the honey and then prepared it for sale in Quaker Kitchen. The proceeds from the sale of the honey helps supports the Club’s hives. Read more at Penn Dining.
